Pascrell to Serve in Position for the Upcoming 109th Congress
Washington, DC - U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-08) today was unanimously re-elected to serve as part of the Democratic leadership team by winning the position of Democratic Regional Whip for Region IX. This region, one of twelve, encompasses the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. Two Members serve as regional whips for each region. Pascrell will serve with the Congressman Albert R. Wynn of Maryland.
"I want to thank the Members of my region for this tremendous vote of confidence," stated Pascrell. "I have been proud to serve in this position for the past two years. Under the leadership of Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, we have accomplished an unprecedented level of unity while ensuring that each member is able to accurately represent his or her individual district. It is vital that we continue to move forward with this approach."
As a Regional Whip, Pascrell helps frame the Democratic Caucus' policy agenda and works closely with fellow Members to determine legislative priorities. He also works to inform his colleagues about the details of pending legislation and the schedule by which it will be considered by the House.
