Horsford Statement on Debt Ceiling Vote

Statement

Today, Representative Steven Horsford (NV-4) released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 325 to temporarily raise the debt ceiling:

Today I joined with my colleagues on the other side of the aisle to support commonsense legislation that requires members of Congress to do their jobs. We have to work together to balance the federal budget in a responsible way that does not target critical programs for the middle-class or the most vulnerable in our society. That is why we are here, if we cannot accomplish what our constituents sent us here to do, we should not collect a paycheck.

While I remain committed to a long-term solution that provides more certainty for small businesses, students, and working families, I am in favor of raising the debt ceiling in the short-term for the economic well-being of Nevada and my constituents.

This debate is not over. I have always said I will work with anyone who has a good idea for how to move our country forward, and I will continue having serious conversations with my fellow members to find responsible ways to balance the budget.
