Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham released the following statement in response to the Senate "Gang of 8's' Immigration Proposal.
"As a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, I believe the Senate Gang of 8's statement of principles on immigration reform is a first step toward what eventually could be a workable system. As such, it is encouraging to me that there is bipartisan agreement on the need to move forward in a comprehensive manner, which includes helping more than 11 million undocumented individuals get on an earned pathway to citizenship. It is also heartening that there is finally an understanding of the many benefits to our country brought about by getting millions of people out of the shadows and into full participation in our society. I look forward to reviewing the details of the bill and getting to work on this critical issue, but will remain vigilant on the types of proposed triggers attached to the pathway to citizenship. We must ensure that they are necessary and feasible, but they don't serve as insurmountable obstacles to achieving citizenship."
