Today Congressman Holding (NC-13) released the following statement regarding cosponsoring his first legislation:
"Today I joined House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte in cosponsoring two versions of an amendment to the Constitution requiring a balanced budget. This amendment would put needed restrictions on spending and require Congress to deal seriously with our nation's dangerous spending addiction.
The national debt currently stands at 16.4 trillion and is rising by the second. After four years of trillion dollar deficits, we continue to borrow nearly 43 cents out of every dollar we spend-- a totally unsustainable rate. A Balanced Budget Amendment is a logical measure to ensure that Congress does not spend more than it receives, and to begin to control our spending problem. Both parties are guilty of spending more than our revenues allow -- this will put an end to such excesses.
H.J.Res. 1 and H.J.Res. 2 have been referred to the House Judiciary Committee, of which I am a member. I look forward to discussing this legislation as it comes through the Committee."
