As our Nation marks the 40th anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe vs. Wade decision legalizing abortion, Congressman Robert Pittenger reaffirms his commitment to fighting for the rights of the unborn.
This past weekend, organizers of the North Carolina Right to Life March and Rally read aloud the following statement from Congressman Pittenger:
It was Thomas Jefferson who said, "God, who gave us life, gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever."
As a child of God, as a husband, father, and grandfather, and now as a Congressman, I too tremble at what our nation has collectively forgotten, and how our nation has chosen to treat the unborn.
There is a terrible culture of violence that has permeated our country, beginning with how we treat the unborn and now spreading terribly into other venues. As a nation, we no longer respect life.
It's our sacred duty to change that, and I want to thank you for the work you do. Each frightened mother that you comfort, each baby that is protected, and each heart that is changed each individual step is important in protecting life and giving a voice to those not yet born.
May God bless you and the work you do.
