House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement regarding House consideration of the Require a PLAN Act:
"Next week, the House will consider legislation that will require the President to present a balanced budget to Congress -- something he hasn't done in the four years he's been in office. The White House has already alerted Congress that its budget will once again be submitted later than the statutory deadline. Worse, the President has been responsible for annual deficits topping $1 trillion, fueling an almost $6 trillion increase in the national debt. Meanwhile, Senate Democrats have shirked their duty to draft, let alone pass, a budget in nearly four years. Our economy is sagging under the weight of record debt and deficits, job creation is weak, consumer confidence has plunged and GDP growth contracted in the remaining months of 2012. Americans want our government to be both accountable and efficient. Americans also support, by a large majority, a balanced budget. It's time the President and Senate Democrats actually heed the will of the American people in order to put our country on a better path forward."
