Jones Votes Against Raising the Debt Limit

Location: Washington, DC

Today the House approved H.R. 325 -- a bill that would raise the federal debt limit for the 10th time since 2004. Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) voted against the measure, which would allow the federal government to continue its addiction to wasteful deficit spending funded with borrowed money from foreign countries.

"I'm proud to be the only member of Congress to vote against every increase in the debt limit over the past 9 years," said Congressman Jones. "This nation cannot keep kicking the can down the road. We've got to stop borrowing money from China and wasting it on foreign aid, bailouts and other unnecessary items. The legislation passed today allows the government to continue its reckless spending and pushes us further down the path of fiscal chaos. I simply cannot stand for that. We must cut wasteful spending now."
