U.S. Congressman Sam Graves issued the following statement today after the U.S. House passed the No Budget/No Pay act which requires both the House and Senate to pass budgets or not get paid.
"Passing a budget is one of the most basic responsibilities of any government. For the past four years the United States Senate has failed to do that. If they will not do their job, then they should not be paid.
This bill will allow the Senate and House time to craft, debate and pass a budget by April 15th. The first step in controlling spending is to pass a budget that reduces expenses. The House will pass a budget that reduces spending and balances our budget in the next 10 years. The Senate will have a simple choice: No budget/No pay.
It should be clear that there will be no long-term extension of the debt ceiling without significant, real and meaningful spending reductions. This is the first step, not the last in the fight to reduce our government's spending."
