Keystone XL Pipeline getting new life in new session

A pipeline from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico has been batted around Congress for years, but it could be coming around for a new push in a new session.

Representative Richard Hanna was appointed as Vice Chair to the house subcommittee responsible for transporting hazardous materials this week.

He says he has no doubt the Keystone XL pipeline will come back into play early this year.

Hanna says the Keystone XL could bring jobs and cheaper fuel, and it could be safer than current methods of transportation.

"Trucking something 2,000 miles, is much more fraught with opportunities for disaster than sending it underground if the pipes were buried properly and assembled properly," Hanna said.

With his new appointment to the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, the congressman also says he's looking into advocating for a highspeed rail in the northeast corridor.
