Senator Roberts Issues Statement on Secretary Clinton's Testimony on Benghazi Terrorist Attacks

U.S. Senator Pat Roberts, the most senior Marine in the Congress, today released the following statement on Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton's testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee:

"134 Days after the attacks on our consulate in Benghazi, the fog of war remains. Despite the Secretary's testimony today, I doubt we will ever get definitive information regarding this tragedy from this Administration.

"In response to questions about the early reporting and mis-characterization of the attacks as a demonstration, I was very disappointed that Secretary Clinton responded, "What difference does it make?'

"It makes all the difference in the world, Madam Secretary. If reasonable answers to this series of blunders are not forthcoming, I am concerned the message to those in harm's way will be, we left our men behind. Americans representing our country overseas put their lives at risk. We owe them our very best effort to protect them and to combat the threats they face.

"Today's testimony proves the Administration failed to respond to actionable intelligence. They could not predict, nor were they willing to confirm, the definite threat of terrorism in Libya. Nor could vital information and pleas for more security from the Consulate be immediately put to the Secretary's attention. Unfortunately, as stated by the Secretary, the Administration fails to see why the American people, especially those who serve to protect this nation, deserve answers."
