Issue Position

Small business is the backbone of this country. Entrepreneurs are responsible for building businesses and creating jobs. The local business has many opportunities to support the local economy in the community where we live, work and raise our families. I support local business. Local business owners and employees should not be hindered with the overreaching regulations and excessive taxation of our federal government. Our small businesses must be granted an atmosphere that is conducive to growth and innovation -- not oppressive government regulation. The time for this change is long overdue and wholesale change is the only way we as a nation can compete in a global economy.

The US tax code is the most complicated in the world, and our tax rates are among the highest. Without proper tax reform, the American workers and companies will continue to suffer at the hands of the federal government. Without proper enforcement of current and future trade regulations, America will not be able to compete with economies like China and India. With the fiscal cliff looming over us, we are being strangled by additional taxes and rising economic costs. Working eighty-hour weeks at two or more jobs and bringing home an average of $3,000 to $4,000 less per year due to excessive taxes is not the way to promote growth in our economy. We must turn this ship around and invest in the local economy and not the national treasury.

As history has proven, the only rational way for America to be able to compete on a level playing field in a global economy is to create jobs, limit the size of government and cut taxes. Allow small business to return to its glory as the backbone of this great nation. I believe that the next great technological innovation is going to come from the forward thinking of a passionate business owner. We must provide fertile ground for small companies to cultivate ideas so that we can grow the next Apple, or Microsoft, or Google here on our soil.
