Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today on a new Institute of Medicine (IOM) report, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program: Examining the Evidence to Define Benefit Adequacy. The IOM found that the formula used to determine the amount of food stamp benefits people receive may not be adequate, with American families short changed as a result.
"The report released today by the well-respected Institute of Medicine should serve as a clear message to Congress: stop trying to cut the food stamp program and harm American families. I urge my colleagues to heed this message and instead focus their efforts on what should be our number one priority, improving the economy and creating American jobs."
