Sanchez Statement on Hagel, Brennan Nominations

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-46), the second ranked Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, today released the following statement in response to reports that President Obama plans to nominate former U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel to the position of Secretary of Defense and Counterterrorism Advisor John Brennan to the position of CIA Director.

"Senator Hagel is capable and well respected, and the Pentagon would benefit from his experience as an enlisted man and a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. Advisor Brennan's twenty-five years of service to the CIA and work as a counterterrorism advisor to the President would ensure that the CIA is led by an experienced leader. I urge the Senate to give thoughtful and thorough deliberation to both confirmations.

"I would also like to commend my good friend and fellow Californian Secretary Panetta for the phenomenal job he has done leading the Defense Department through the drawdown of two wars and significant budget cuts," said Sanchez. "Our country is safer and stronger because of his efforts."
