Today, Congresswoman Janice Hahn applauded the collective bargaining agreement reached by truckers and their employer at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Under the terms of the deal, reached by about 65 drivers and their employer, the Australian logistics company Toll Group, most drivers will receive an hourly increase from $12.72 to $19, a pension plan, and the company will pay 95 percent of each driver's health care costs.
"For too long, the truckers who are the backbone of the international trade industry have not received the wages and benefits they deserve. This deal is a huge step forward, and I really hope that ports across the country will recognize the important role played by our truckers," said Congresswoman Hahn. "Truckers servicing the port work hard, and they deserve compensation and benefits that reflect that. I'm celebrating a big and long overdue win for these hard working truck drivers and their families today."
