Rep. Schiff Statement on House Passage of Fiscal Cliff Legislation

Statement

Date: Jan. 1, 2013
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Taxes

Tonight, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) released the following statement after voting to pass legislation to avert the Fiscal Cliff:

"I'm grateful that Congress finally came together to pass a deal late last night to avoid going over the Fiscal Cliff. This bipartisan package is far from perfect, but it does protect middle class tax cuts, raise important new revenues and make the tax code more progressive. Most important, it avoids the body blow to the economy that would have accompanied going over the cliff.

"Still, it's clear that we have much left to do. I hope that in the coming months we can work together to focus on the debt and deficit issues we face as a nation, and avoid the brinkmanship that characterized last year's fight over the debt limit and cost our economy so dearly."
