Montana is big skies and open spaces, clean air and water, mountains and rolling plains. Hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, and rafting are essential to our way of life. I've moved away from Montana to a city a few times in my life and each time was reminded, I want to be able to walk out my back door and be in the woods or out in open spaces within five minutes. We are part of this land.
Because of our national parks, lakes, rivers, forest service lands, and wilderness areas, tourists continue to come and spend millions in our state. I support the tourism industry, restaurants, hotels, car rental companies, dude ranches, tour companies and the many other businesses that mean so much to our state.
I support development of alternative energy, wind and solar, because these industries mean good jobs for Montanans, can help individual families save money, and will help us protect our environment. We have innovative products being developed in Montana. I will support the companies working on new opportunities every step of the way.
I support our reclamation economy. The superfund clean-up of the Clark Fork River from Butte to Missoula created hundreds of jobs over recent years and ultimately will mean clean water for Bonner area residents, better fish and wildlife habitat, and better recreational opportunities for Montanans.
We will continue to work together to protect our heritage of wide open spaces.
