U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) today released the following statement after voting against ratifying the United Nations treaty on disability:
"This treaty would authorize bureaucrats chosen from foreign countries to scrutinize American law, society, culture, and even the American family. America must continue to lead in promoting the rights of persons with disabilities, but without undermining American sovereignty. I strongly support the general goals of this treaty, but I cannot support the means the treaty takes to further those goals."
