Representative James Lankford (R-OK) released the following statement after yesterday's vote in the United Nations (UN) General Assembly to grant non-member observer state status to the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), opening the door for UN insertion into the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians
"As we learned from Syria's recent peace negotiations, UN involvement in the peace process is often a distraction to the pursuit of a true and lasting agreement. Peace for Israel and the Palestinians will always be a matter of direct communication between the two parties. Outside imposition of a manufactured peace will never work. The Israelis stand ready for direct talks with the Palestinians, and I hope that the PLO will reengage with them to work toward a mutually agreed upon, stable and lasting peace for their people weary from war and border disputes."
