Rep. Maloney Applauds Tri-state Sex Trafficking Bust

Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) thanked law enforcement agencies including the New York City Police Department and the New York State Attorney General for their work in breaking up a a $7 million three-state prostitution and money laundering ring which arrested more than a dozen people and rescued two human trafficking victims.

"Every single man, woman or child who is freed from the bondage of human trafficking represents a victory for us all. With these arrests, we are one step closer to ending human trafficking, the slavery of the 21st century," said Rep. Maloney."I would like to thank the law enforcement agencies for their commitment to the 16-month investigation and their dedication to seeking justice for the victims of this prostitution ring.

"As a cosponsor of the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act, I have worked to ensure that traffickers are increasingly likely to face prosecution and conviction--and that the victims receive the support they need to recover. It is estimated that nearly 12.3 million people are working in some form of forced labor worldwide--not just prostitution--and we must provide every tool we can to help those here and around the world who are enslaved."

Background:
Congresswoman Maloney is the prime sponsor of H.R. 2759, The Business Transparency on Trafficking and Slavery Act, which would require companies to include in their annual reports to the Securities and Exchange Commission a disclosure describing any measures the company has taken during the year to identify and address conditions of forced labor, slavery, human trafficking, and the worst forms of child labor within the company's supply chains.
