Norton to Kick Off Discussion of Marriage Equality, Other LGBT Issues Thursday

Statement

Date: Nov. 15, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will open a discussion among faith leaders and advocates about the next steps in moving the country towards equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals on Thursday, November 15, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at the Capitol Visitor Center (room HVC-215). The discussion will highlight the success of all the marriage equality ballot issues on election day as well as the robust partnerships between faith leaders and the LGBT community.

"I am particularly pleased to kick off this important discussion about moving LGBT rights forward at a time of real promise," Norton said. "The tide is shifting in this country towards LGBT equality, as shown in the success of every single marriage equality measure on ballots across the country on election day, and the election of Tammy Baldwin to the Senate, who will be the first openly lesbian Senator. But justice does not have an engine of its own. I am grateful to the Metropolitan Community Churches for their leadership as we set our sights on the next steps forward."
