U.S. Rep. Ron Barber's Statement on Conflict Between Israel and Hamas

U.S. Rep. Ron Barber today issued the following statement on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza:

I am deeply concerned by the constant barrage of rockets from Gaza that continue to threaten the Israeli people. I condemn this violence and support Israel as it defends itself against these acts of terror.

Unfortunately, this terror is nothing new. Israel has been under the threat of groups such as Hamas for generations. This history of aggression only underscores the need for the United States to continue our strong support for our friend and ally Israel.

It is imperative that peace come to this region. I am very troubled by the situation that people in Gaza face each day. Civilian Palestinians are suffering. However, the political strife, poverty and economic instability of Gaza will not be solved by attacking Israel.

For the benefit of both the Israeli and Palestinian people, and the global community as a whole, I urge the parties to find a path toward a peaceful resolution to the current conflict.
