Congressman King Joins with County Executive Mangano Insisting that FEMA and LIPA Improve Services to Long Island Residents Left without Power by Hurricane Sandy

Rep. Peter T. King (R-NY), Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, joined with Nassau County Executive Mangano insisting that FEMA rush additional generators to Long Island to provide power to gas stations which have gasoline but no power. Congressman King emphasized that "it is particularly important that this be done without delay because of the Nor'easter that will be hitting Long Island in the next several days."

King and Mangano also urged that FEMA provide better communication to Nassau county residents, many of whose homes have been destroyed by Hurricane Sandy.

Separately, King is demanding that the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) immediately remedy its poor customer service and improve its inadequate sharing of information with residents who are still without power.

King said: "LIPA's failure to keep customers informed of the latest information on conditions and improvements is simply unacceptable. County Executive Mangano and I have heard so many complaints from many Long Island towns and neighborhoods about the "arrogant' and unhelpful attitude of so many of LIPA employees as well as LIPA's failure to respond to legitimate inquiries from those without power."
