Andrews Announces South Jersey Counties Now Approved for FEMA Funds

Press Release

Date: Nov. 4, 2012
Location: Haddon Heights, NJ

Earlier today, Congressman Andrews announced that Camden, Gloucester and Burlington Counties have been approved for public assistance as a result of the impact of Hurricane Sandy. While South Jersey's counties were not immediately eligible for disaster relief through the federal government, Congressman Andrews advocated along with Governor Chris Christie to ensure that clean-up and recovery funds were made available for the region.

Following the devastating impact of Hurricane Sandy, Congressman Andrews immediately urged the White House and FEMA officials to extend public assistance to those harmed in the First Congressional District. In response to the urgent needs of South Jersey families and businesses, FEMA has broadened eligibility for public assistance to include all 11 New Jersey counties that were not previously approved.

Public Assistance Program funding is available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Eligibility allows New Jerseyans to apply for different types of assistance, including temporary housing, repair, replacement or other needs such as Disaster Unemployment Assistance, and Small Business Administration disaster loans.

"I thank Governor Christie for his leadership and advocacy on behalf of those in South Jersey who have suffered greatly as a result of this devastating hurricane and I applaud FEMA Administrator Fugate for responding to the needs of our region," said Congressman Andrews. "These funds will help families get temporary shelter and provide the resources to rebuild the community so those hit hardest can get on with their lives."
