Hurricane Sandy ravaged the East Coast this week leaving in its wake a trail of destruction that will forever shape the lives of impacted Americans.
Mississippians know that the real recovery begins when news coverage ends. Leaders will start by rebuilding homes, schools and churches. But wounds will not fully heal until families rethread the fabric of their communities.
I applaud Mississippi's state and local officials for sharing our resources and expertise with those fellow Americans who have been harmed by this storm. Our resilience after Hurricane Katrina taught the nation that while loved ones and valuables were lost, new memories will replace those created by tragedy as we look confidently to a future filled with renewed opportunity.
