SHAHEEN-AYOTTE LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA

October 30, 2012

President Barack Obama

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW

Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. President:

We write today in support of New Hampshire Governor John Lynch's request for a Disaster Declaration for the State of New Hampshire in the wake of hurricane Sandy which brought strong winds across the state as well as heavy rains. This request covers all ten counties in New Hampshire.

Heavy rains, strong winds and gusts as high as 60 miles per hour in some locations caused extensive power outages and produced widespread debris, closing roads across the state. The Governor responded quickly by declaring a state of emergency allowing numerous state resources to be immediately available to our citizens.

Although the cleanup is now underway, the state will continue to feel the effects of this storm for weeks and even months to come. We urge you to grant the Governor's request for a Disaster Declaration immediately, so that our businesses and towns can access the assistance they need. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Jeanne Shaheen

United States Senator

Kelly Ayotte

United States Senator
