Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after the Department of Labor released its jobs report for October, which showed 184,00 private sector jobs were added last month:
"Today's report marks the thirty-second consecutive month our economy has added private sector jobs -- a strong sign that our recovery is continuing and that the economic policies of the Obama Administration are helping move America forward. More Americans are going back to work, and we are reversing the severe job losses that occurred under the Bush Administration.
"In 2008, our economy lost over 4 million jobs, but since President Obama's and Congressional Democrats' recovery policies were put in place we've seen 5 million jobs added. However, we cannot be satisfied with the progress we've made so far. We must continue to pursue measures that help businesses create jobs that won't be shipped overseas. House Democrats' Make It In America jobs plan, which focuses on revitalizing our manufacturing sector and helping businesses expand and add jobs, is exactly the kind of plan America needs.
"Congress has a responsibility to set partisanship aside and work to pass Make It In America legislation that will build on the progress we have already made. I urge both parties to work together to create jobs and move our economy forward."
