Today, Bob Casey, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and a local senior discussed the importance of preserving and protecting Social Security and Medicare. Bob Casey's Tea Party opponent supports plans that dismantle Medicare, and he even said a Tea Party plan to end Medicare in two years and cut Social Security benefits by 40 percent is a "good plan."
Tom Smith has called Sen. Rand Paul's (R-KY) Tea Party budget a "good plan." Paul's plan would end Medicare in two years and cut Social Security benefits by 40 percent. Tea Party organizations have applauded Paul's budget naming it the "Tea Party budget" and calling it the "best in class" budget proposal.
Mayor Michael Nutter discussed the importance of Social Security and Medicare while highlighting Tom Smith's support for a plan that would end Medicare in two years and cut Social Security benefits by 40 percent.
"In this election, Pennsylvanians and seniors in particular have a clear choice for Senator," said Mayor Michael Nutter. "When it comes to protecting Medicare and Social Security Bob Casey has steel in his spine. He's worked to strengthen the guaranteed benefit, extend the life of Medicare and has always stood up to schemes that privatize Social Security. But his opponent, Tom Smith, has a very different vision. He's running on his support for a Tea Party budget that ends Medicare in two years and cuts Social Security benefits by 40 percent."
Mable Welborn, a local senior, said that she relies on Medicare and Social Security to help her and her family make ends meet.
"I have worked hard to protect and preserve Social Security and Medicare, and I will continue to fight attempts to privatize Social Security and dismantle Medicare," said Bob Casey. "Seniors rely on Medicare and Social Security to make ends meet, and Democrats and Republicans must work together to fight any attempt to weaken Social Security or end the Medicare guarantee that will increase costs for seniors."
