Vitter Reiterates Means to Add Competition to Poorly Performing Utilities

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Following a Public Service Commission meeting to review Entergy Corps response to Hurricane Isaac, U.S. Sen. David Vitter reiterated his call for state officials to review state laws to allow competition amongst utility companies and pursue reforms to guarantee prompt and reliable performance. In September, Vitter and Jefferson Parish President John Young expressed frustration about utility services following Hurricane Isaac.

"Louisianians want to see a competitive, market-based approach to utility regulation whenever it is in the public interest," Vitter said, "John Young and I have suggested some ideas for consideration that would inject real competitive pressure, and I encourage the PSC to take that into consideration as they move forward with their investigation."
