Antigua and Barbuda National Day Message

Statement

Date: Oct. 26, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of Antigua and Barbuda as you celebrate 31 years of independence this November 1.

The United States and Antigua and Barbuda remain united by shared history, values, and cultural ties. Our collaboration through the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative and the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief advances our common aspirations and support for democracy, rule of law, and human rights. Our efforts are increasing security, improving access to healthcare, creating greater economic opportunities, and ultimately building a brighter future for all our people.

We remain committed to strengthening our bonds of friendship. I wish you a happy, safe, and prosperous independence day as you enjoy some of Antigua's favorite dishes during the Food Fair and honor your heritage during the annual parade.
