This week, Congressman Marlin Stutzman (IN-03) visited Steel Dynamics's Columbia City plant, touring their rail division and discussing pro-growth solutions.
"Hoosiers can be proud that our state leads the country in steel production," said Stutzman. "Businesses like Steel Dynamics are proving that ingenuity, hard work, and Hoosier know-how get the job done. I want to make sure that Washington doesn't stand in their way. Unfortunately, over the past three years, this country has lost over 600,000 manufacturing jobs. Hoosiers in the real economy deserve better. It's time for Washington to crack down on China's illegal currency manipulation, lower tax rates to attract business in a global economy, and work with job creators to find common sense regulations instead of top-down burdens."
Congressman Stutzman has worked to combat Chinese currency manipulation by co-sponsoring the Currency Reform for Fair Trade Act, legislation that would classify China's actions as illegal export subsidies that could be offset by countervailing duties. Earlier this year, as a member of the House Steel Caucus, Stutzman called on the Department of Commerce to renew a 1998 agreement prohibiting Russian "dumping" of hot-rolled steel.
Most recently, Stutzman voted to protect coal, Indiana's largest energy source, from the current administration's regulatory onslaught, preventing the EPA from using the Clean Air Act from quietly imposing a carbon cap-and-tax scheme.
