The education of our children is one of the most important issues we face; it is our responsibility to provide them with the tools they need to ensure success. Our children are the ones who will lead the our state and country toward a brighter future. However, we continually shortchange our schools at the municipal level by requiring them to go without essential personnel and programs. We cannot ask our educators and staff to keep going without or with less and less every year.
As a parent with two children who have been through the public school system, this is not acceptable. My children were fortunate to enjoy a very good education and great teachers; they have chosen to pursue their academic careers through the Maine community college system. I will work with my fellow representatives in encouraging our state university administration to keep costs down for students, and foster the community college network that allows students to continue to pursue their careers while working.
