Chairman King Statement on Designation of Haqqani Network as Foreign Terrorist Organization

Statement

Date: Sept. 7, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Rep. Peter T. King, Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, issued the following statement on Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's designation of the Haqqani Network (HQN) as a Foreign Terrorist Organization:

"I strongly support the Administration's belated decision to designate the Haqqani Network as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. The Haqqani Network, with close ties to al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations that threaten our Homeland, stands responsible for many deadly attacks upon American diplomatic, intelligence, and military personnel serving in Afghanistan. I commend Secretary Clinton for this important designation, as well as House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers for his strong leadership on this issue. It is now imperative that the Pakistani Government immediately sever its ties with the Haqqanis."
