The bipartisan leadership of the Energy and Commerce Committee and its Communications and Technology Subcommittee today released data submitted by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regarding the Universal Service Fund (USF) high-cost and low-income support programs. The data was supplied by the FCC in response to a request by the Committee regarding USF support payments. This is the first report to the Committee from the FCC since the agency adopted comprehensive reforms of the high-cost and low-income USF programs.

"I am encouraged that the FCC is working hard to implement major reforms to the Universal Service Fund," said Rep. Waxman, Ranking Member of the Energy and Commerce Committee. "This data shows some preliminary progress toward the goal of more efficient programs that promote broadband deployment to and adoption by unserved Americans. But much more work remains to be done. The FCC must continue to move forward with these reforms with the interest of the American consumer in mind."

"I commend the FCC on its efforts to modernize and reduce waste in the USF programs," said Rep. Eshoo, Ranking Member of the Communications and Technology Subcommittee. "The data the agency provided is promising and will support the Subcommittee's continued oversight as the Commission implements these USF reforms."
