Walden Statement on FCC Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Incentive Auctions

Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) today issued the following statement after the Federal Communications Commission adopted a notice of proposed rulemaking on spectrum incentive auctions. The spectrum auctions, which will generate revenues, spur investment and innovation, create jobs, and support first responders, were part of the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 that originated in the House Energy and Commerce Committee as Chairman Walden's Jumpstarting Opportunity with Broadband Spectrum Act.

Walden said, "Today we are one step closer to advancing spectrum policies this subcommittee has been championing for more than five years. If implemented well, the law has the potential to help meet Americans' hunger for mobile broadband services, generate hundreds of thousands of jobs, and raise billions of dollars toward buildout of the nationwide, interoperable public safety network called for by the 9/11 Commission. We will work with stakeholders and the FCC to try to make those goals come to fruition."
