Committee Members Put Jobs First, Rally Support to Stop the War on Coal

Press Release

On Thursday evening, members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee took to the House floor to stand up for American jobs and affordable energy as debate kicked off on H.R. 3409, the Stop the War on Coal Act. The legislation is comprised of a series of bills that aim to stop EPA's regulatory assault on America's power sector. Included in the package are three proposals advanced by the Energy and Commerce Committee: the Energy Tax Prevention Act, the Transparency in Regulatory Analysis of Impacts on the Nation (TRAIN) Act, and the Coal Residuals Reuse and Management Act, which have all separately passed the House with bipartisan support. The House is expected to vote on the Stop the War Coal Act later today.

"We're trying to create jobs, not lose jobs, especially when we're trying to be and remain competitive in the global marketplace with countries like China that are stepping up the use of their coal."

-Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-KY)

"There is a war being waged on energy and on coal in this country, but it's not coming from another country -- it is coming from our own government."

-Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN)

"Those who believe that there is no war on coal are in dangerous denial. The actions of this administration against coal have caused massive uncertainty in the marketplace."

-Rep. David McKinley (R-WV)

"The Obama administration is trying to regulate what they don't have the votes to legislate and it's costing American jobs."

-Rep. John Sullivan (R-OK)

"This legislation - stopping the president's war on coal - is important to jobs not only in coal country, but in Kansas and everyplace we're trying for economic growth all across the country."

-Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KS)
