KOHL SECURES $200,000 FOR INCUMBENT WORKER TRAINING PROGRAM IN LA CROSSE

WASHINGTON-U.S. Senator Herb Kohl announced today that he secured $200,000 for a worker training initiative in the La Crosse area that will help manufacturers remain competitive and up-to-date on the latest technologies. Workforce Connections, Inc., which is part of the Western Wisconsin Workforce Development Board, runs the program. The funding is included in the fiscal year 2005 omnibus budget, which Congress approved this weekend. Kohl is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and its Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and had identified the project as a priority for funding.

"Training programs like this help manufacturers keep a competitive edge by staying on top of the latest technology. Manufacturers in the La Crosse area have made tremendous contributions to our economy, and this training program will ensure they will have continued success and productivity. This is a good investment of federal funding, and I am pleased we have included it in the budget," Kohl said.
