KOHL SECURES $100,000 IN BUDGET FOR UW-PLATTEVILLE ONLINE TEACHER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

WASHINGTON-U.S. Senator Herb Kohl announced today that he secured $100,000 for a UW-Platteville online program that will help certify new, qualified teachers in Wisconsin. The funding is included in the fiscal year 2005 omnibus budget, which Congress approved this weekend. Kohl is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and its Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and had identified the project as a priority for funding.

"Qualified and motivated teachers remain vital to a student's education. We are fortunate to have thousands of excellent, dedicated teachers throughout Wisconsin, but many more await certification. This program will help qualified teachers obtain the certification needed to get into the classroom," Kohl said.
