Representation means that a person has been given a vote of confidence to represent the good of the people as part of a larger elected body, and to work together in earnest to make decisions for the betterment of their constituents and society as a whole. What I too often see, is an immoveable stance being taken and held to without the promise of open discussion and deep consideration for all ideas. I don't see this as productive. I promise to work openly, to listen as well as speak, and to work cooperatively to solve problems of mutual interest to all.
One representative is making a pledge to work on a model of direct representation, responding to the counted votes of his constituents, and resorting to his own vote only to break a tie. Is this what we want?
