As Vermont moves forward, there are many doubters. The road to reform is not for the faint of heart. The changes required can affect the quality of care, the accessibility of care, and the affordability of care, not to mention the overall government participation level and the changed roles of insurers. Finding a formula that satisfies the objectives of change while respecting all the players in the organizational and financial shift, is a challenging task.
I am supportive of the move forward, as I believe it is the right thing to do, and I hope it will emerge with a price tag that makes fiscal sense for Vermont. I am confident as the board for Green Mountain Care works to check off the "triggers" (pieces that must be in place before moving forward again) for its continued development, including a plan for sustainability.
