Donnelly Supports Social Security and Medicare; Mourdock's Extreme Plan Will Slash Seniors' Benefits

Today, Joe Donnelly, candidate for U.S. Senate, visited Evansville's Columbia Healthcare to tour the facility and meet with seniors. Donnelly spoke with seniors about their concerns for strengthening and protecting Social Security and Medicare. This is in stark contrast to Richard Mourdock's extreme plan to slash seniors' benefits.

"We have a duty to Hoosier seniors," said Donnelly. "Social Security and Medicare help seniors make ends meet, and it is our duty to keep them strong. Richard Mourdock has questioned whether Social Security and Medicare are constitutional. He supports ending Medicare as we know it. He wants to make deep cuts, end guaranteed benefits, and force seniors to pay $6,000 more in out-of-pocket costs.

"Further, Mourdock wants to gamble with seniors' Social Security benefits in the stock market. I disagree. Wall Street shouldn't be in charge of seniors' well being. I'll fight to protect Social Security and Medicare, both for the Hoosier seniors I met today and for future generations."

Richard Mourdock's extreme agenda would increase out-of-pocket Medicare costs for Hoosier seniors by as much as $6,000 and send more than 120,000 seniors back into the Medicare Part D "donut hole," skyrocketing their prescription drug costs. Mourdock's "my way or the highway" cuts would also require nearly 800,000 Hoosier seniors to pay more for preventative care under Medicare and deny 950,000 seniors access to guaranteed benefits.
