2nd Amendment

Date: Oct. 15, 2012
Issues: Guns

I support the 2nd Amendment and Americans' right to own firearms. We have laws on the books that do enough, and we need to fully finance and enforce these laws. The tradition of hunting and gun sportsmanship goes back to the very foundation of America. Unless someone is a danger to himself or others, their right to own and use firearms in a safe and appropriate manner should not be infringed upon.

I will not vote against Americans' rights to own guns. As a gun owner myself, I share the concerns of firearms enthusiasts about undue restrictions on our right to keep and bear arms. Americans must be allowed the tools to protect their homes and families in time of need as one can never predict when one's home might be threatened.

I advocate for gun safety. As a health care professional, I also recognize the danger that firearms present when carelessly used in the same vein that a motor vehicle can be as well. The gun owner must be just as careful in the storage of his or her weapons when they are not in use as when they are. That means keeping guns secured from the curious hands of young children and the irresponsible when they are not in use.
