During Latino Heritage month, we celebrate the dynamic and lasting contributions of the Hispanic community to our city, state and nation. On Tuesday, I was pleased to deliver remarks at the San Francisco Latino Heritage Month Celebration and Awards Ceremony. The ceremony occurred just one day after President Obama came to California to announce the establishment of the César E. Chávez National Monument. César Chávez dedicated his life to the cause of the common good, the movement for workers' rights and civil rights, and the belief in fairness and opportunity for American Latinos and all Americans. It is a source of national pride that César Chávez will forever be honored with a national tribute.
