Jim is the proud son of an educator. In fact, his mother, Arlene, taught in elementary schools in Marshfield for 26 years. She helped to give children a life-long gift: The ability to read. Marshfield has named a library The Arlene M. Cantwell Memorial Library at the Governor Winslow School after Jim's mother to honor her work in the school system. With this personal history, Jim has been an advocate for state budgets that have allocated more state aid for education than in the history of Massachusetts. But Jim still understands that the state needs to do more to make sure all students are best prepared for 21st Century challenges. Following the November 2011 town election in Marshfield, Jim has worked to secure $49.2 million for a new Marshfield High School. For higher education, Jim has met with leaders of Massasoit Community College to support bringing the community college to Scituate. In fact, Jim is pleased to have successfully advocated for a $100,000 grant from Mass Technology Collaborative to produce the feasibility study for the Ocean Campus Center.
