Scott Beasley for U.S. Congress 2012 District 6

Statement

Date: Oct. 6, 2012

I keep hearing people discussing the debate last night regarding tax breaks for the "middle class". This is very confusing to me since half(47%) of the "middle class" pay no federal income tax at all. How can you give an income tax break to someone who doesn't pay income taxes? Instead of bickering over who's plan will add or reduce the deficit(excuse me for being skeptical of those who claim to be able to predict the future), how about a flat tax rate so everyone pays the same percentage? That way, we won't have to hear one side whine about how the other side is lying. History shows that we have seen increased revenues and decreased revenues after tax hikes AND after tax cuts. So basically, the two parties are arguing over who is going to be wrong the most at predicting the future. Talk about raising and cutting taxes may seem like an important aspect, but we could raise the top rate to 100% and it wouldn't put a dent in our debt. Don't worry, if we don't cut spending soon, it won't really matter as we will no longer be able to borrow and the decisions to cut spending will be dictated by our creditors to our kids.
