Recently, I voted for H.R. 3409, the Stop the War on Coal Act. This bill aims to curb the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) job-killing regulations. Because of this bill, Americans will still have access to affordable energy and prevent the premature closure of coal plants. President Obama and the EPA have attacked coal plants, seeking to effectively shut down the industry. With our unstable economy and unemployment stagnant around 8%, American families cannot afford to lose valuable jobs.
According to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, the coal industry is currently responsible for over 550,000 U.S. jobs. The industry also estimates that every coal mining job creates an additional 3.5 jobs in the economy.
H.R. 3409 gives power back to the states by allowing the state to regulate coal ash. I will continue to fight to ensure President Obama does not push his policies to hurt American families and small business owners. In order to serve you best, I want to know how you feel about the EPA and environmental policy. Click here to take a short survey below and share your thoughts.
