Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Co-chair and Founder of the House Congressional Pakistan Caucus and Co Chair of the House Children's Caucus released the following statement regarding the situation, Malala Yousafzai, the 14-year-old Pakistani girl gunned down on her school bus by the Taliban recently:
"Malala Yousafzai, whose advocacy of girls' education has won global recognition, is a symbol of hope in a country long beset by violence and despair. The cowards who attacked Malala and her fellow students have shown time and again how little regard they have for human life and how low they can fall in their cruel ambition to impose their twisted ideology. They have no respect even for the golden words of the Prophet that "the one who is not kind to children, is not amongst us.' I urge the government of Pakistan to protect not just its religious minority citizens but also women and girls.
"Malala is what Taliban will never be. She is fearless, enlightened, articulate, and a young Muslim woman who is the face of Pakistan and the hope for better human rights for women in Pakistan."
