Congressman Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and member of the Joint Economic Committee, issued the following statement today in response to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' employment report which found in September the U.S. economy created 114,000 new jobs, the unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent, and the total number of Americans employed rose by 870,000.
"Today's terrific jobs report is a direct answer to critics who falsely claim the President's economic policies aren't working. President Obama has kept a steady hand and has managed to rescue our economy despite efforts by Republicans to block him at every turn and who, by their own admission, are putting partisan politics ahead of our country. We need to work together and continue to build on this progress."
Today's report also revised upward by 86,000 the number of jobs created in July and August.
