Press Release

Date: Sept. 28, 2012
Location: Miami, FL

Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) issued the following statement urging voters in Puerto Rico to go out and vote and make their voices heard on important ballot initiatives.

Said Ros-Lehtinen, "One of the most important civic responsibilities we have as citizens of the greatest nation on earth is to go out and vote. And this is the message that I want to relay to my Puerto Rican brothers and sisters.

There are four important decisions on the ballot for the residents of Puerto Rico and each one is important to its future. We cannot complain about the state of our nation if we are not engaged and we don't go out and vote. By voting, we assure that our voice is heard and that we become an integral part of our democratic process.

Our democracy is the envy of the world, but it takes work to re-energize it and nourish it and by voting we are doing both. Everyone who is of legal age and has a valid voter's registration card should not hesitate, rather they should vote on Tuesday, November 6th."

NOTE: The four initiatives on the ballot in Puerto Rico are:

Statewide Ballot- Governor and Resident Commissioner
State Legislature Ballot- Senators by District, Senators At-Large, Representatives by District and Representatives At-Large
Municipal Ballot-Mayors and Municipal Legislators
Puerto Rico Political Status Plebiscite
