Congresswoman Laura Richardson issued the following statement in response to the Department of Labor announcement that the economy added 114,000 jobs and the unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent in September:

"Today's job report provides further evidence that our economy is on the path to recovery," said Congresswoman Laura Richardson. "The unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent in September, the lowest since January 2009. This is the 31st straight month of private sector job growth.

"The economic policies adopted by the President and Democratic Congress in 2009 are working, having produced more than 5 million private sectors jobs since January 2009. However, we still have more to do to ensure that everyone looking for work is able to find employment.

"Now more than ever, Congress should be working together and with the President to do more to bring certainty and security to the American families and businesses still struggling to make ends meet in this tough economy. Democrats in the House were ready to work on improving our economy and creating jobs. It is also my hope that House Republicans will join us in this effort."
