Congressman Franks (R-AZ) released the following statement today in response to this morning's shooting of U.S. Border Patrol Agents who were attacked in the line of duty, leaving one dead and another wounded. The Agents were assigned to the Border Patrol Station in Bisbee, Arizona that was renamed just two weeks ago in honor of Agent Brian Terry, who was killed by illegal drug runners using guns linked to the disastrous federal gun trafficking operation known as Operation Fast and Furious.
"My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the U.S. Border Patrol agent who was murdered this morning along the border in Arizona. I also pray for the speedy recovery of the other agent who was wounded in today's shooting.
"Their sacrifice is a tragic reminder of the risk our courageous border agents -- and their families -- take every day, working to keep our border secure. There are no words we can offer to adequately thank them for their service in keeping the innocent safe."
"Today's violence is also a reminder that this Administration's failure to secure America's southern border continues to come at unspeakable cost. While federal authorities have been unable to determine whether Fast and Furious guns were linked to today's shooting, it is an ongoing scandal that 1,300 of the 2,000 guns that were deliberately put into the hands of dangerous traffickers and Mexican drug cartels by the U.S government remain unaccounted for."
"I pray God's deepest comfort and peace for the family of the agent who was killed today. I hope his family is comforted knowing that their loved one died courageously in the defense of innocent Americans and that his sacrifice will not be forgotten."
